Xbox 360 wins best console Xbox 360 scoops best gadget prize

Microsoft's Xbox 360 has been voted the best games console by technology fans.

It fought off competition from Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) and Nintendo's DS Lite to scoop the prize.

Five thousand readers of gadget magazine T3 nominated their favourite appliances for the publication's first reader's awards.

Other winners included the iPod 30GB for best MP3 player and the Sony Ericsson W810i for the most sought-after mobile phone.

Jason Jenkins, deputy editor of T3, said: "The poll is interesting
because some of the trends where we have been thinking, 'is this really
happening in the real world?', seem to be happening.

"For example, the fact that people are increasingly getting rid of
their iPods and going for phones to listen to music on the move is
something we have been writing about for months, but it's interesting
to find out that people are actually doing it."

There were 20 categories in the awards, which readers voted for through
the T3 website, ranging from best "boy's toy" to most favoured PDA.

T3 WINNERS
Best MP3: Apple iPod 30GB
Best Mobile: Sony Ericsson W810i
Best HD Device: Sky HD
Best Portable Video: Archos AV500
Best Console: Microsoft Xbox 360

Best PDA: Blackberry 8700G
Best Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro
Best Boy's Toy: Zero Gravity Wall Climber
Best Sat Nav: TomTom Go 910

The laptop prize went to Apple for its MacBook Pro, chosen for the way it "combined both style and performance".

Best satellite navigation gadget went to the TomTom Go 910, for its "touch screen display and clear directions".

Mr Jenkins added that the awards would prove to be an "excellent barometer" for the next big-sellers in the high street.

He said: "Our readers are primarily early adopters of gadgets, and we have found that in the past that whatever they go big on, the mass market adopts pretty soon afterwards."

At the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, MP3 devices that play both music
and video, digital entertainment hubs, consoles and new TV displays
were predicted to lead the surge in sales in the proceeding 12 months.

Interestingly the ps3 won best overall gadget but didn't win best games console...

But we all know that the blu-ray function is secondary to gaming, don't we...

well tbh it was kinda expected the only other thing i sort of might have considered being a good challenger was the Wii but as mookey said nothing that makes u reduce the amount of fat is not considered a console loool :)

thats because the PS3 isnt a games console, anything that can cook meat and reduce the amount of fat in it ISNT a games console lol ;)
